We are all jealous of those pretty super-models and movie actresses who look so gorgeous in magazine photos and on the big screen. But you know what? Every woman can look absolutely gorgeous when she learns a few basic techniques about choosing and putting on cosmetics.
That’s right, achieving a perfect look with makeup is a lot like creating a work of art. By knowing some makeup and cosmetics basics, you can create a pretty face.
After you figure out your skin type, you can choose the trio of facial care items that are best for you. Typical facial cleansers, astringents and moisturizers work with normal skin types. A Dry skin needs a regimen with products that are rich in creamy emollients to improve and ensure moisture. Oily skin needs water-based skin care products that won’t add more moisture. People with combination skin, which is more oily in some areas, dry in others – should clean with traditional products, but should take special care to adapt toner and lotion to the problem areas.
Next, decide on a good foundation that matches your skin type. You should always purchase the highest quality cosmetics you can afford, because it’s going on one of the most delicate organs of your body, your skin. Lower quality makeup looks on your complexion like just what they are – cheap cosmetics product.
The trickiest part of picking a good foundation is to find your correct match. The harsh lighting used at most makeup counters can fade out your skin tone, making it very difficult to pick a color. To compensate, try putting a little bit of the foundation product on the skin inside of your wrist. The skin on that part of your arm will be the closer to the skin on your face. Don’t try to select a color by applying it to the back of your hand, because your hand is usually tanned from the sun, and will therefore be darker. And don’t try sample makeup products on your face, because they almost always transfer germs.
Now the real fun begins, choosing a new look out of all those adorable makeup colors! Most girls like to have at least a couple make up looks, one for during the day and another more drastic look for nights and special occasions. Some women match their makeup shades with the main colors in their wardrobes, while others like to try all the new stylish looks each new season.
Most girls need to have at least a couple different looks for their cosmetics, one for daytime and one for night. Typically, because natural light is brightest in daytime, more down-played makeup looks best for day or work looks. If you have light or mid-level complexion, try beige eye shadow with a brownish eye liner, a neutral toffee-colored (no dead brown, please) lip color, and a brush of peach-colored blush. If you have a deeper complexion, use dark berries or wines that correspond with your skin tone for lips and cheeks.
But don’t stop with only a single look! Since night time lighting can wash out your complexion, go for the dramatic finish with your night time makeup. Do you have really good lips? Then emphasize them by wearing a dark red, moist lip stick and minimize the rest of your makeup products so that your lips stand out. Are your eyes your best feature? Then select more dramatic colors that will make them hypnotize everyone who looks at you.
If you’re unsure about how to choose your makeup, a makeup artist can give you excellent recommendations. You might even have a buddy who’s good with makeup and can give you color suggestions and help. The point is that makeup is fun with an added bonus: A gorgeous face.
